Darrel Bristow-Bovey's 8 Hot Tips for Finding Wonder and Romance when Loadshedding Strikes

One Midlife Crisis and a SpeedoDarrel Bristow-Bovey, columnist extraordinaire and author of One Midlife Crisis and a Speedo, recently wrote a column for Rand Daily Mail about why he sometimes experiences loadshedding “as a strange gift.”

In the column, Bristow-Bovey shares eight ways in which not having power has been cause for fun and wonder. His reasons range from seeing the stars more clearly, to getting to pretend it’s the 1940s and potentially getting unexpected pizza delivered to your home, to romance.

Read the column:

I know it’s an act of responsible citizenship to be grumpy about load-shedding and to fret about institutional failure and damage to the economy, and that’s all certainly true enough, but sometimes I have uncontrollable moods when, despite my best intentions, I can’t help experiencing the darkness as a strange gift, an opportunity, slightly magical, to see things differently.
