Tips on How to Deal with Difficult Dealmakers
Kim Meredith’s latest book, Dealonomics, teaches people how to improve their income in these recession-prone times. Meredith is the CEO of The Dealmaker Company, which has shared a blogpost on how to deal with difficult dealmakers.
Remaining neutral and making sure everything is put in writing throughout the deal are two of the tips shared:
We have all faced difficult dealmakers in our time. They dig in their heels, make unrealistic demands, pick fights, twist what we say to their advantage, bully and badger us, leaving us exhausted and the deal in shreds.
How can we manage this kind of person with a degree of dignity, while keeping the deal more or less intact? The temptation of course, is to walk away or qualify out of the deal, saying that the pain and effort required are simply not worth it. Although the process of qualification is on-going throughout a deal, to simply “qualify out” because the person is difficult is somewhat cowardly.
