Julian Rademeyer Discusses Rhino Poaching at Think!Fest: "This is Literally the Last Stand"
In her article for the festival’s paper, Cue, Indrajith writes that Rademeyer explained that rhino poaching “is more than a conservation problem, it’s a battle against poverty and organised crime”. He went on to say that if there is a solution that might work then we should try it as, “This is literally the last stand. If the battle’s lost here then the rhino’s gone”.
Rhino poaching is more than a conservation problem, it’s a battle against poverty and organised crime. A viable solution must include law enforcement, education and debate, Julian Rademeyer said during his Think!Fest talk about his book, Killing for Profit.
By 26 June, 446 rhinos were killed this year in South Africa. The number of rhinos poached increases with growing wealth, said Rademeyer, an investigative reporter who spent two years researching rhino poaching.
