Podcast: John Maytham Discusses Marguerite Poland’s Taken Captive by Birds
John Maytham spoke about Taken Captive by Birds by Marguerite Poland on his 567 Cape Talk radio show. He introduced it by saying that it is, “a book which is more than a book, it’s an aesthetic object to hold and wonder at”.
Maytham spoke about the way in which Craig Ivor’s illustrations start off each chapter with a bird that prompts one of Poland’s memories. He went on to say that it is an exquisite book that is “beautifully delicate and sweet and full of the best grace that memoirs provide”.
