Podcast: Max du Preez Describes a “Dismal” Upbringing in Kroonstad

Max du Preez recently joined Johannesburg radio station Chai FM for a discussion about his latest book, The Rough Guide to Nelson Mandela.

In the interview podcast, Du Preez also speaks at length about his personal background – from his “dismal” childhood in Kroonstad to his place as one of South Africa’s foremost journalists. He describes, in particular, how the start of Vrye Weekblad meant his estrangement from his “strict Calvinist Afrikaner Nationalist” family.
