Tim Noakes Receives the Order of Mapungubwe

Bob Woolmer’s Art and Science of CricketTim NoakesSouth Africa’s highest honour, the Order of Mapungubwe, was awarded last month to Prof Tim Noakes, who most recently co-authored a remarkable work of cricket instruction and history with the late Bob Woolmer and Helen Moffett, the Bob Woolmer’s Art and Science of Cricket.

The author received his silver medal – which is given to a select few who make substantial achievements in the international arena which have served South Africa’s interests – at an event hosted at the University of Cape Town:

The event featured speeches by several luminaries who have played a part in Noakes’ life and career, including Professor Wieland Gevers, who is also a recipient of the award, former Springbok rugby captain Morné du Plessis, and long-distance champion Bruce Fordyce, among others.

Noakes said that he asked everyone to speak about excellence and science, not about him, but this didn’t prevent the odd jibe.

Yup, looking at the group photo, it's like my sister said: Petunia. Onion Patch.
