Video: Revisiting "Some Afrikaners" with David Goldblatt

David Goldblatt and Max du PreezEarlier this month, journalist Max du Preez and photographer David Goldblatt sat down for a conversation about the latter’s book Some Afrikaners Revisited, an expanded reissue of his earlier, scorchingly controversial photo essay, Some Afrikaners Photographed.

Their chat was less feisty, and du Preez more cordial, than might have been expected (“there has always been a Goldblatt [photograph] in my life”, du Preez at one point confessed), but it provided a wealth of insight into Goldblatt’s approach as a photographer – particularly with regard to the influence of writers like Athol Fugard and Herman Charles Bosman on his work.
